FPPTA Fall Trustee School
September 22-25, 2024
Signia by Hilton Bonnet Creek

Registration is now open for the Fall Trustee School at the Hilton Bonnet Crook, September 22-25, 2024.

The Fall Trustee School offers the FPPTA’s hallmark CPPT program as well as a wide variety of CEU sessions for those maintaining continuing education credits. Whether working towards your CPPT designation, earning continuing education credits, or just looking to become more knowledgeable about pension issues, here’s your chance to continue your educational journey as a trustee. Join us in Orlando for a two and half day event of lectures and discussions that cover everything from trending topics in the industry, to legislation, economic trends, and the funding, actuarial, legal, and investment issues your board should know about in the coming months and years.

There are two important changes to the Trustee School this year.

1. FPPTA Orientation Program

The FPPTA is introducing a full day orientation program on Sunday, September 22nd. Trustees entering into the CPPT Program and attending the Basic CPPT track are required to attend this full day orientation program. The mission of the orientation program is to give each new trustee an understanding of the association and familiarize them with some of the FPPTA resources available to them. Over the course of the orientation program, trustees will be provided an overview of the association, insights into our education programs, and provide some context about the role of a trustee and the importance of the work they do on behalf of the pension fund. While trustees enrolling in the CPPT program are required to attend, this full day program is open to all knew trustees. There is no additional cost to attend the orientation program, but registration is required.

In addition, the orientation will conclude with a keynote address from Greg Bell, author of Water the Bamboo: Unleashing the Potential of Teams and Individuals. Trustees who did not attend the 2024 Winter Trustee School are encouraged to attend Sunday’s keynote address to prepare them for Monday morning’s training seminar where Greg will dig deeper into concepts of team and culture building. We ask that trustees who are not enrolled in the Basic CPPT track and would like to attend the full day orientation or only the Water the Bamboo keynote address register so we have accurate numbers.

2. Trustee Leadership Council

The Trustee Leadership Council (TLC) Class of 2025 begins their journey with this new program for experienced trustees creating a pipeline of knowledgeable principals ready to take their place in leadership roles for generational change on their pension boards.

This course will be completed over three levels and participants are required to attend each level consecutively. Each participant must attend the upcoming 2024 Fall Trustee School, the 2025 Winter Trustee School, and a third three-day event in April of 2025. Please check with your board’s travel policy to ensure your ability to attend all three events.

There is a cap of 30 participants for this program. To register for this new program please visit the Trustee Leadership Page on the FPPTA website. You are still required to register for the Trustee School in addition to registering for the TLC program. Click the button below to learn more about this new program and to register.

On-Going Event

Pension Fundamentals for New Trustees

*THIS PROGRAM IS REQUIRED FOR TRUSTEES BEGINNING THE CPPT PROGRAM*

Virtual Event – This is an on-going event that can be taken at any time.
Pension Fundamentals for New Trustees: $150

This new program is intended to be a primer for a new trustee walking into their role on the pension board. This one day virtual program will cover the various roles people play in the pension system, give a run down of how a defined benefit plan works, and familiarize a new trustee with the language, players, and lay of the land they’ll come to know in their new role. In addition to this program, participants will receive access to a digital reference book full of useful information for trustees no matter their experience level. This program does not offer CEU credits. This program is a requirement for any trustee intending to enroll in the CPPT Program —  trustees must complete this program before entering into the Basic CPPT course.
