Chris Liedtke is the Head of Applied Data Science (Principal) at BGO, where he is embedded in the investment management team to bring the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning to bear on investment decision-making. Before assuming his current role, Chris was the Vice President of Research & Strategy.

Prior to joining the firm in 2019, Chris was the senior manager of data science at Putnam Investments. Chris founded and led the data science organization, where his team developed machine learning systems that influenced decision-making across the equity, fixed income, and sales analytics verticals. Prior to his tenure at Putnam Investments, Chris worked as an economist at RTI International.

Before venturing into the world of investing, Chris served in the U.S. Navy for six years, undertaking four combat deployments to the Persian Gulf, Mediterranean Sea, Indian Ocean, and Horn of Africa. While serving as a VBSS commando onboard the USS Gonzalez (DDG-66), Chris was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal for bravery under direct fire during a close-quarters combat engagement with a pirate cell outside of Mogadishu, Somalia. Additionally, he served as SAR (search and rescue) swimmer and intelligence operator specializing in anti-submarine warfare.

Chris holds an M.B.A. from New York University Stern School of Business; an M.S. in Analytics & Data Science from the Institute for Advanced Analytics at North Carolina State University; and a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Asheville in Philosophy, Economics, and Mathematics. Presently, Chris is a doctoral candidate in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) at George Washington University.
